Intro

As another year passes in the persistent marching of time, there is an opportunity to let go of those things that have passed and effectively prepare for what is to come. It is so comforting to know that there are already plans in place for us to prosper and not be harmed, with hope and a future. Those thoughts of the Father for our good, though, require clarity and focus if they are to effectively lead us through the endless distractions of life that threaten to take us off His course. There is a way that we are given in scripture to disable those things that would dissuade us by calling a time of intentionally removing other things that might distort or muffle our undivided attention to His directions. The purpose of this time is not to magnify the things that are denied but to look away from them to the true Source of life they veil. While there are surely issues to be dealt with that need breakthrough and victory, this time will be most effective as those things are not the focus, but rather the One who is more than enough in every situation. As demands of the flesh are denied and He is magnified, so the size of those mountains will be seen as only needing a word for their removal.  It’s in the focused worship and praise of the Greater One that all things are possible.

For each of these 21 days of fasting, there is a need for denial of the flesh in some manner that may vary from day to day and may include food, entertainment, or any gratification that is part of a regular daily expectation. For health considerations and the children, there may be restrictions chosen for certain food groups, while some may choose to limit their intake to fluids or even water alone. For everyone, though, it is beneficial to let food be a part of this time as the body is a great influence and a potential distraction from where God may be leading. There is also a need, though, for this to not just be about a diet of adjusted food intake, as the mind and spirit are also in need of freedom from distractions. This will require turning off the social and media voices that are so prevalent around us to allow hearts and minds to become sensitive to the voice of the Spirit.

For whatever we commit to concerning making a place for hearing God’s plans, that needs to indeed take place. The space that is made for Him must be filled with undisturbed hearing from Him through the reading of His Word and hearts attuned in prayer. As revelation and clarity come there in His presence, there will also be honor and value given to the direction received by documenting and preserving it as the much-needed guide through any coming distractions. What we prepare for and take from this precious time will be a great source of stability and motivation to take us victoriously to His Kingdom purpose for this coming year.

What follows will be a scripture with comment for each of the days, along with meditations with declarations to be made that put God’s Word before us and in our mouths. There is also a Sermon Note in the church app that coincides with a hard copy for documenting the type of each day’s fast and any notes or scriptures that are utilized.

For each of the coming 21 days, there is a unique opportunity for discovery of this amazing God we’ve united with and His plans for our lives. While this is most precious and full of potential for this time, may it also become a growing pattern for our lives of having nothing before us and the heart of our Father God.
