Ephesians 2:4-6 (TLB)
4 But God is so rich in mercy; he loved us so much
5 that even though we were spiritually dead and doomed by our sins, he gave us back our lives again when he raised Christ from the dead—only by his undeserved favor have we ever been saved —
6 and lifted us up from the grave into glory along with Christ, where we sit with him in the heavenly realms—all because of what Christ Jesus did.
There is a precious parable from Luke 10 about a man cared for by the “Good Samaritan”. While the Samaritan is the one providing the loving care and gets much of the focus, the traveller who had been attacked, beaten, and robbed had a unique and precious perspective as well. He was on his way to Jerusalem with his own plans and schedules when he was attacked from nowhere by thieves. Their blows had left him nigh unto death and everything he had with him was gone. Again from nowhere, though, someone from a group of people considered unacceptable came upon him in his desperate state. From nothing he deserved or could benefit the Samaritan, he was not only cared for along the side of the road, but was taken to an inn, where he further cared for him and provided for his full recovery. For him, it wasn’t just the recovery and provision, but the mercy he was given was the very presence of someone who loved him apart from any apparent worth other than his existence.
Wherever we’re at on the road of life, no matter what its effects on our personal plans and purpose, there is One from a people we had not had previous connections, who has come alongside us. Before we could even know who He was He provided complete recovery from any wounds and provision that would more than cover any loss. From no deserving on our part and even if we were totally opposed to Him, He not only provided the best care and resource, but, best of all, He provided a place for us to go right by His side. In this seat we are now far above the powers of the world, able to live in confidence and peace, cared for eternally in the presence of the Almighty. He did this before we ever turned to Him. However, for what He’s already provided to be received and bless, a choice of Him above anything we’ve come from is required. In the revelation of this seat by His side, though, we’ll abandon it all as we willingly allow Him to take us there.
“As I set aside food and normal routines of this earthly realm, I am also looking away from them to the place I will forever be with Jesus, victorious and prosperous!”
