Day 3 - Unshakeable

Hebrews 12:27-29 (NLT)
27 This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain.
28 Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.
29 For our God is a devouring fire.

Several years ago, we moved to California two weeks before a major earthquake hit the valley just North of Los Angeles. I remember waking in the middle of the night to dishes breaking in the kitchen. They had been loose on top of the refrigerator, and once the shaking began, it didn’t take long for them to slip off, land on the tile floor, and break into many pieces. Once we understood what could happen, we ensured nothing further could be shaken and were able to survive the subsequent aftershocks without any additional mishaps.

Until the shaking begins, it may seem like everything’s good, that nothing is vulnerable to damage. When the tremors commence, though, everything susceptible to shaking and falling will be removed from its position to be damaged. Every portion of our lives secured on the Rock will never move or degrade. Those areas, though, that have been given to interests and pursuits other than the kingdom will not survive the impending shaking. In this time of prayer and fasting, we can gain an understanding of these areas of vulnerability by intentionally removing them as our hearts are fixed on those things from above that will never be shaken in Christ. Rather than becoming infatuated with things of this world and faithfully serving them, we can completely separate from any other dependence than the one who came to give us life.  The reality of our unity with Christ will be kept from the undermining effect of the world’s shaking.
