Ephesians 1:17-18 (TPT)
17 I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him.
18 I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling—that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!
Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
3 'Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'
As my parents grew up in a small mountain town just this side of the Continental Divide, we traveled there several times a year—especially at Christmas to be with my grandparents. One of the most exciting moments of each trip was spotting the mountains as we approached from the eastern plains. Slowly, they rose in the distance, eventually looming far above and around us.
To me, the mountains were always massive sculptures—beautiful, imposing, and mostly unapproachable. They were barriers to be navigated through, not places to be understood. From the road, they were something to endure and admire, but never something I truly comprehended. That perspective remained unchanged until the day I was given a ride in a small plane.
As we rose above the mountains, following a southern route, my vision of everything that had once impressed me was transformed. From the air, I could see what had never been visible from the road. Entire valleys, passes, and landscapes—places we had only rushed through—were suddenly revealed in clarity and beauty. What once felt overwhelming from below became understandable from above.
In much the same way, we often move through life beneath massive, looming obstacles. From a limited, ground-level perspective, these challenges feel unavoidable, restrictive, and intimidating. We endure them, manage around them, and accept their limits as permanent. Yet there is an invitation to be lifted far above them as we draw near to the One who dwells above it all.
In His presence, perspective changes. What once seemed insurmountable is put in its proper place. Even obstacles that appeared impossible become small and far less imposing. No longer confined to a narrow path of mere survival, we are given authority to address each “mountain” from a liberated position. What once blocked our way is now clearly seen for what it always was—something that could be spoken to, moved, and cast into the sea.
This reversal of vision is a powerful gift available to those who choose to be lifted in God’s presence. Fasting positions us not just to admire the view from above, but to receive authority there. From that higher place, we are empowered to confront what once limited us and to deal decisively with what we never imagined could be overcome.
