Day 15 - Magnified

Psalms 40:16 (NKJV)
16 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!"

Psalms 35:27 (NKJV)
27 Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, "Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."

A magnifying glass takes something small and unclear and brings it up close visually where its features can be discerned. It is excellent for working on a circuit board or assembling a model with tiny parts. When you can’t see the pieces, putting them where they need to go is impossible. Magnifying them, though, enables them to fit right where they should. Is it possible, though, to magnify something already massively big and for it to become useful where it had not been before? For something to be magnified, whether small or large it requires focusing on it. When something is small, directing a magnifying lens to focus directly on it brings it into view. When something isn’t tiny, however, it is still possible to magnify it, making it visible and functional, by focusing on it. This can be done physically when the eyes are diverted from other surrounding objects and have a single focus on a portion of it. It can also be done by focusing on its abilities, origins, and characteristics in documentation and discussions. This was our experience with this massive church in Milan, Italy. Though it was huge long before we arrived, it became magnified visually for us when we focused our gaze on its outside, inside, and even its roof. It was magnified further, though, when we listened to a tour guide’s descriptions and then visited a museum containing a great deal of interesting information.

With our God until He is seen for who and what He already is, His power, ability, and beauty will remain dormant to us. Though He is massive and detailed beyond imagination, we won’t be impressed or impacted by Him until He is magnified. As long as we have a magnifying lens focused on the little things in this world, they will have our focus and attention. Our capabilities and destiny will be limited by their magnification. Adjusting our attention and focus to the Almighty, the One who is already huge beyond fully seeing, however, will open up His influence and help to every part of life. The ability to believe and receive from Him will be contingent on Him being bigger than circumstances, reports, and rejections. He is far greater than anything we’re up against, but until we focus on His glory and fixate on His Word, there can be no experience of His greatness.
