Day 14 – Setting the Heart

Job 7:17-18 (NKJV)
17 "What is man, that You should exalt him, That You should set Your heart on him,
18 That You should visit him every morning, And test him every moment?

Daniel 10:12 (NKJV)
12 Then he said to me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.

There is a great challenge to the hearts of those whose lives have been saved by someone. Even if there was a long list of prior disagreements, once that person chose to offer themselves as a lifesaver, they garnered the debt of respect and honor from those who were saved. That anyone should consider another’s life to be worth the giving of their own is worth at least an attempt at reciprocation. An effect has been made on more than just the physical body, as the heart has been touched with an expression of love far beyond infatuation. An appropriate response, then, will originate and be set in the heart to produce expressions that come from genuine gratitude and appreciation. There will be a like value returned for that heart that chose to save theirs.

There is no understanding it, but the Almighty God of creation, the One who formed everything, has chosen man for the setting of His heart. When we were deserving of judgment and annihilation for corruption of heart, He actually set His to be with us every morning and portray to us His will and ways of rewarding righteousness. We deserved nothing at all, and yet right when we were at our worst, He was at His best, giving us the Treasure of His very life that we can never repay. The revelation of this great weight of debt we owe should somehow ignite a response from the hearts of those for whom He became a Savior. For every heart set to give Him its attention, expressions, and affection, He is faithful to respond to this fulfillment of His heart’s passion. Right at the moment the heart is given to its Savior in appropriate honor, gratitude, and service, the God of Creation is coming for His desired interaction. He loves being a good, good Father to every heart that is set to acknowledge Him as such. How amazing it is that the setting of His heart gave us Jesus, and how rewarding is His response to the setting of ours in return. All of life is transformed in His coming to our words.
