Day 12 - Acceptable

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Just as there is a reflection in our conduct and appearance from what we are beholding, so there is a conformation to what we are giving ourselves to in our thinking. We become what we eat. We’re consumed by what we consume. When it would seem we’re just exercising free will in what we’re partaking of, we are really just giving ourselves to its effect and influence. The Happy Meal hasn’t only been craved and ingested. A body has been willfully given to its influence on its health and physical image. So meditation on worldly thoughts and ways is not just partaken of for enjoyment. It has been given to for behavioral and attitudinal conformation. If only it could be known how much the temporary gratification will own, how much it will affect in its possession, there would be readiness to abandon it for a proven alternative.

In our approach to the King to acknowledge and honor Him, what we have been giving ourselves to will be evident in the vessels offered to Him in worship. While He loves that we come to Him, true worship that lifts Him above all other entities of this world will come from a vessel given to Him in its physical and mental consumption.  By delighting in and savoring His thoughts and ways, an effect is made on the vessel that He finds acceptable. It no longer looks like the father of the world it used to follow after, corrupted and unhealthy. It has become a vessel not only acceptable for upward worship, but it is now capable of receiving the acceptable and perfect will of the  Father as well. If it could only be known how beneficial it is to give our bodies and minds to Him in what we consume, there would be no hesitation in setting aside all worldly desires to be transformed alone into what He finds acceptable.
