Proverbs 3:5-6 (AMPC)

5  Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
6  In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

Though I’ve lived in the Austin area for quite some time now, and have driven down many of the main roads/highways over and over again, I know there are still places I’ve passed by many, many times that I am not yet aware of. It’s interesting when discovery is of one of those places is made. You wonder how you could have missed it for so many years. Until there is at least recognition of existence, it is most difficult to benefit, no matter how valuable or useful the services or products. However, when discovery is made because of a need for what they provide, relevant knowledge is quickly acquired along with motivation for practically applying that knowledge.

There is a store across from the Guitar Center on Anderson Mill Rd in Austin that was one of these discoveries for me. I found it with a Google search for camera gear they carry. I must have passed that store over 100 times before even knowing it was there. With my need, however, came revelation of not only their existence, but their ability to provide for that particular need I had. My discovery of them also revealed that there was much more to the store than just the particular item I needed.

There is salvation, provision, healing, deliverance, etc. for every person in need of them. There is a search that will lead to the presence of God where they can be found. Discovery of Him, though, will include knowledge, not just of His provision, but of His holiness, righteousness, and demonstrated love. There is a benefit for every aspect of life that will come from simply turning off the well beaten path that goes right past Him and taking the time to discover Him – His nature, His words, His ways. Rather than coming to Him with a pre-conceived perspective in an attempt to just have Him tag along with us on our journey, really acknowledging Him will include letting go of prior knowledge or understanding. With each submission to what is discovered in Him will come increased reliance upon Him in every other aspect of life. From the prior winding and arbitrary path will be taken the straight and plain one that acknowledging Him leads to. It is one that is ever increasing in glory that it brings to Him.

While there may be temporary reprieve from actual threats to life here on earth, freedom from death’s fear and its power to enslave will never be removed by measures of men alone.
